Anne Hathaway and Dave Bautista have been signed on to a new action comedy film that will put them together as FBI agents who are part of an undercover sting. In fact, it is based on an event that actually occurred. What do we know so far about the project?

As per Deadline, the film, which was written by Jonathan Tropper for Amazon MGM Studios and AGBO, will follow two undercover FBI agents who do not get along and have different ways of going about their own. But because of the case involved, they must cohabitate and eventually develop a mutual respect for one another.

In fact, the film is based on an actual undercover sting that occurred as an attempt to infiltrate more than one enterprise in the world of crime. In the case of the operation, it ended with multiple arrests during a wedding that was staged in New Jersey.

The real-life bride and groom were not actually getting married. They were working undercover in order to infiltrate a crime ring that involved smuggling and fraud, among many other activities. The pair had worked together in order to earn the trust of the individuals they were preparing to arrest.

All of the arrests, reaching as high as 87, occurred as part of Operation Royal Charm, which was named for the yacht which was where the staged wedding was being held. Many of those arrested came from all over, as far away as China.

While the real-life situation was obviously not funny, the film version with Hathaway and Bautista will likely see behind-the-scenes moments as they hold their cover while also working together. Plus, with their different styles of getting answers in their work, we’ll likely see a juxtaposition in terms of one agent who may be level-headed versus someone else who may be a little looser with how they investigate.

So far not much is known about the untitled film. Since it is a comedy, we’re sure to see some hijinx from Bautista and Hathaway as they must learn to work together despite their differences. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about what to expect from the project.

Along with Tropper, the film will also be produced by Joe and Anthony Russo. Trooper is also credited with This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project. Bautista is also working on The Wrecking Crew with Jason Moma, which was also written by Tropper. Hathaway has also been tapped to star as the lead in the film based on Colleen Hoover’s novel Verity.
