We all know CBS loves a franchise. The network has NCIS Mondays, FBI Tuesdays, a Young Sheldon spin-off with Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, and Sheriff's County will join the Fire Country universe in 2025 with the potential for there to be a spin-off for Jared Padalecki's character Camden Casey on the table as well. So, it goes without saying that it makes sense The Equalizer is in consideration for an expansion.

The Queen Latifah-led crime drama is in its fifth season and it continues to be a draw for CBS. Now would be the time to test the waters for a series set in the same universe and that's exactly what the network intends to do. While there isn't a backdoor pilot on the books, episode 516 will be used to introduce two new characters to the show. Their names haven't been revealed, but their character descriptions have been shared.

Deadline reports that The Equalizer team is looking to cast a young woman for the role of a criminologist who is a skilled martial artist and weapons expert. The character is said to have a secret origin story and that she'll be turning to Robyn McCall for help. The criminologist will also seek the assistance of an older man who is a former CIA operative. The outlet specified that it's unclear at this time whether the man and McCall will have a shared history from working at the agency.

The actors selected for both roles will come on as guest stars with series regular options, the idea being that they will lead the potential spin-off together. That's an interesting choice considering the franchise, for the TV series and the films, focuses solely on one lead but this spin-off will have two. Presumably this break in format is meant to bring something fresh to the table.

Most of CBS' dramas are either led by ensembles or feature singular leads with a robust supporting cast. Having a duo at the forefront, as we've seen with the network's comedies, could bring a different spark to their successful formula. We'll have to see. For now, we'll be waiting for episode 516, which will air in Spring 2025 as The Equalizer season 5 heads toward its finale.

Stay tuned to Americans Undercover for updates on who will be playing the new additions to the series. The Equalizer airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET. The crime drama will move to the 10 p.m. slot starting Sunday, Feb. 16. Episodes are available to stream on Paramount+. Follow us on X for more content!
