Katrina Law shares when NCIS fans can expect Jimmy Palmer and Jessica Knight to have that talk

NCIS kicked off season 22 by answering whether Jessica Knight is back on the team. More importantly, the big question that remains is when will she and Jimmy get back together?

The season 22 premiere started on a wild note as Knight was holding a priest hostage in an interrogation room. She demanded a divorce attorney named Celia play hostage negotiator. Knight explained that the team had gotten a coded call from Torres about how he was in trouble on an undercover assignment tracking a drug lord named El Padre.

The investigation had Knight convinced El Padre was an actual priest but it was complicated by DOJ Inspector General Gabriel LaRoche (Seamus Dever) revealing one of Knight’s agents was suspected of being a mole for the crime boss. Knight ended up taking the priest hostage and trying to hold him, with Celia pressing her and Knight feeling out of sorts after breaking up with Jimmy. 

The twist: When the REACT team burst in, it was to arrest Celia. Turns out she was the attorney for that agent and used the info from meetings to tip off the cartel. Facing jail time, she gave up where Torres was to save him and the other agent. 

In the end, Jessica was offered a promotion, but told Parker the whole experience made her realize that what she thought was her big career move just didn’t fit, and she wanted to come back. Speaking to TVLine, Katrina Law said Knight made the decision easily. 

"As soon as she sees Parker’s face, it just kind of clicks for her. I thought I needed something new, I thought I needed to get away from everybody and just start over fresh, but ultimately what I want and what I need is to go home — and home is in D.C. at this moment."

So it seems Knight is back on the team but where does that leave her and Jimmy?

When do Jimmy and Knight have the talk?

Law confirmed Knight will be back for episode 2 and she’s needed because the premiere ended with McGee pointing out the only other person who knew Torres was undercover was LaRoche. Parker warned McGee to keep that quiet to avoid a fight with the DOJ…only for Vance to announce LaRoche was the new NCIS deputy director. Meaning the team has to report to the guy they suspect might be a traitor. 

But, of course, what fans are eager to know is if Jessica and Jimmy are getting back together. Jimmy was evasive if Jessica's return meant they were back together, even if his daughter was eager to have her back. Law indicated it might be a bit before this awkward talk happens.

"You know what? The interesting part about the Jessica/Jimmy thing is it’s not until Episode 4 that they actually talk about anything. The two of them are so set on just making things work and acting like they’re OK and that nothing has happened, but all of a sudden in Episode 4 they are caught in a situation where they are by themselves, alone, and they cannot leave, and all of a sudden they’re going, ‘Well, guess we kind of have to have a talk now!' It’s awkward and funny and heartbreaking and wonderful at the same time."

It seems the pair are trying to be professional on the job while their co-workers are going to be gossiping about them. Their first interactions are likely going to be off with neither wanting to face the issue between them but Law is confident that NCIS fans will see the pair together sooner rather than later.
