Netflix sets the date for Robert De Niro's Zero Day, here's when it's coming to the streamer!
Robert De Niro is starring in his first lead TV role and Netflix's Zero Day looks amazing!
It's harder to find an actor more successful and respected than Robert De Niro. The two-time Oscar winner shows no signs of slowing down at the age of 81, still adding more movies to his long resume and always picking unique projects.
The one thing DeNiro hasn't done is a regular TV series. He's had the odd guest star appearance as himself, and starred in the Argentine drama Nada, but has never had a series regular role. That's going to change, however, as he's set to star in the new Netflix drama Zero Day, and it appears to be a prime role for him when it hits in February! The streamer has shared the first details on the show and it appears to be a great new thriller.
What is Zero Day about?
Created, written, and executive produced by Eric Newman and Noah Oppenheim, Zero Day takes place after a brutal cyberattack nearly cripples the United States. A special commission is created headed up by former U.S. President George Mullen (De Niro). As he helps the team find out what happened, Mullen has to face some dark secrets of his own past as he seeks to stop another attack.
The press release has Newman explaining, "Zero Day is about the aftermath of a devastating cyberattack that kills thousands of people and threatens to push a nation already on the precipice over the edge."
Oppenheim added that, "The show also looks at the cost of power for those who are asked to take on these enormous challenges -- what it means for them personally, and what it means for their families."
Cast
While De Niro would be more than enough to make this series notable, he's surrounded by a top-notch supporting cast. Angela Bassett, Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, Matthew Modine, Dan Stevens, Bill Camp, Gaby Hoffmann, and Clark Gregg all star with Bassett cast as the current leader of the free world, President Mitchell.
That is one amazingly stacked cast of TV and movie veterans who can easily bounce off DeNiro. So while he's the big name involved, this is not going to be a one-man show.
When does Zero Day premiere?
The show will drop all six episodes on February 20, 2025. All six are directed by executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter. Netflix is expected to drop a trailer soon with more details yet it appears that Robert DeNiro's first TV show is going to be one of Netflix's must-watch shows of 2025!
