FBI season 6 ending explained: 3 things to remember before season 7
We may have another month to go before the season 7 premiere of FBI, but we’re still excited to see the aftermath of the events in the season 6 finale. Plus, with news of Katherine Renee Kane’s exit from the show, we have to wonder if what happened in the finale will affect her character’s decision to leave the series.
Kane played Agent Tiffany Wallance starting in season 3 and will appear in at least one episode of season 7. Her arc through season 6 involved her guilt over the death of Agent Trevor Hobbs, who was killed while they were working undercover.
They had been going after a Somalian terrorist named Hakim, who managed to escape, and Tiffany was overcome with emotion as she sought to find the person responsible for the murder. However, the aftermath of her actions in the finale had the potential to cause ripple effects through season 7.
Based on what happened in the finale, let’s go over what occurred and what is important to remember as we head into season 7.
Tiffany got justice but at what cost?
In the season 6 finale, the FBI team eventually caught Hakim, but Tiffany was the only one who actually saw him before Maggie, OA, and Scola arrived on the scene. It looked like Hakim was about to surrender when Tiffany fired a shot at him. Things were tense as OA searched his body for a weapon before finding one. Despite it appearing to be a good shoot, it’s clear that things are not as crystal clear.
The shooting may follow Tiffany into season 7, especially with the news about Kane’s exit from the show. But depending on how things go, will this close one portion of the arc or will her team have answer for what happened since there were conflicting views of the shooting? This is something we're looking forward to diving into when season 7 premieres.
Maggie’s guardianship takes an unexpected turn
During season 6, Maggie became guardian to her friend Jessica Blake’s daughter, Ella, after she unexpectedly passed away due to complications following a surgical procedure. Ella had been living with Maggie during the season and Maggie had to learn to balance work and caring for the young girl, especially considering the dangers of the job.
In the season 6 finale, Maggie came into contact with Jessica’s brother, who has a little girl and hadn’t seen Ella in a while. Maggie was happy to allow Ella the chance to spend time with family. Even though we don’t know how Maggie’s role in Ella’s life will play out in season 7, we could get to see whether Ella’s uncle will end up taking over the role of being her guardian now that he is in her life. The arc may also continue to dive into Maggie’s feelings about motherhood and becoming a parent, especially if Ella is with her uncle and cousin.
The team’s personal relationships continue to thrive
Other than the focus being on Hakim at the end of season 6, we also had plenty to see from the relationships on the show, especially with OA and Gemma. We could get to see their relationship grow, especially since OA was working on opening up to her about things that were difficult to discuss.
Plus, even though Nina Chase is on FBI: Most Wanted, we will get to see how Scola continues to balance work and being a father. And since he will be getting a new partner in season 7, we could also see how this affects him going into season 7. Overall, the season 6 finale set up some great storylines, even if we weren’t expecting to lose Tiffany when the episode aired.
FBI season 7 is set to premiere on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 8/7c on CBS. Previous episodes are available on Paramount+.
