Here at Americans Undercover, we're waiting on tenterhooks for Cross, the Prime Video adaptation of Alex Cross' story based on the books by James Patterson. The series makes its debut Thursday, Nov. 14, dropping us into a binge-able eight episode first season that takes place as Cross is grieving his wife and trying to hold himself and his family together.

The D.C. homicide detective and forensic psychiatrist has his partner, John Sampson, to lean on in this live-action iteration both personally and in the field. He's going to need his best friend as the harrowing season long case involves a sadistic serial killer that they must contend with as Cross' past threatens to up end the work he's done to manage as best he can without his wife.

Cross showrunner and creator Ben Watkins has said that the series won't be adapting a particular book, so the case in season 1 is a brand new one. But we won't have to worry about the finale ending without a satisfying conclusion to the story. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Watkins shared that it'll be one mystery per season: "We're doing a mystery a season. You get to a closed chapter at the end of each season."

In that way, the series emulates the Patterson books. With every page turn, you know that the truth is being brought to light as you and Cross deduce the how and why of the murder. Cross will be much the same though Watkins also said, "We hope that people show up for the mystery, but we want them to stay for the characters."

Prime Video has already greenlit Cross for a second season. Variety reports executive producers Jim Dunn and Sam Ernst will join Watkins as co-showrunners for the crime thriller's sophomore outing. Three cast members have already been announced as well!

Though this hasn't been confirmed, according to Deadline, Jeanine Mason will play Rebecca, a vengeful judge who is both brilliant and ambitious. Wes Chatham has been tapped for Donnie, a far-right leaning military vet turned farmer with a hard-edge and a sensitive heart. Matthew Lillard is set to star as Lance, a self-made business tycoon who is as ruthless as you'd expect.

Unsurprisingly, the plot for Cross season 2 hasn't been disclosed. We'll keep you posted as more news comes in. Stream the first season on Nov. 14 and stay tuned to Americans Undercover for coverage. For more content follow us on Facebook!
