Netflix’s The Diplomat is coming back for a second season and a teaser trailer has already given fans a glimpse of one character’s fate.

The season 1 finale found Hal, Stuart Heyford, Ronnie, and Merritt Grove presumed dead in the wake of a car bombing. Fans were not sure whether or not Hal survived the blast, but the new teaser trailer answered that question!

In the trailer, Hal and Kate are seen climbing out of a car looking glamorous as they are photographed. When they come to the steps, a woman turns to look right at Kate. Actress Allison Janney is set to portray Vice President Grace Penn, whose job the president wants Kate to take over.

Of course, we still don’t know the fates of the others involved in the car bombing, but it does appear Hal is well, at least physically. But based on the summary of season 2, despite their marriage standing on rocky ground in season 1, Hal is described as being Kate’s closest ally as she continues to investigate who was behind the bombing of the aircraft carrier that preceded the series.

Kate had discovered the person behind the attack was British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge, meaning she will need to be careful about investigating who was ultimately responsible. In doing so, Hal will be one of the few people she can trust.

The synopsis for season 2 focuses on how Kate attempts to rebuild her team in the aftermath of the explosion as she must search for the truth of how the British government was involved in the aircraft carrier attack. It also teases how she will continue working on her dynamic with Austin Dennison, the British Foreign Secretary, all while the VP arrives and shakes things up for Kate even more.

As for whether or not anyone else survived the explosion in the season 1 finale, fans will have to tune in to find out on Oct. 31 when all six episodes of The Diplomat season begin streaming on Netflix. However, some stills from season 2 make it clear that at least one other person got out of the explosion mostly unscathed.
