Red One
Red One | Amazon MGM Studios

Prime Video is ready to make it a holly, jolly, action-filled Christmas for you at home with a release we've been waiting for! Red One, which is currently in theaters, is going to be hitting the streamer with enough time to watch it ahead of Christmas. Mark your calendars for Thursday, Dec. 12 and settle in for a holiday-themed action adventure.

If you've only seen the Abominable Snowmen on the beach with ice machetes in hand and J.K. Simmons pumping iron as a fit Santa Clause, let us fill you in on the plot of this comedic fare that's filled with combat, high-octane sequences, and enough wackiness to have the whole family laughing.

Red One is about Santa's abduction from the North Pole. Of course, this sends the region into crisis but thankfully Mr. Christmas has his own operatives that can handle the situation. An E.L.F. is an Extremely Large and Formidable individual, like Callum Drift (Dwayne Johnson), who is especially trained to protect the peace between humanity and magical creatures.

Callum, however, has increasingly grown dispassionate about his job since the world has become naughtier and naughtier, hence the length of Santa's Naughty List. The Red One's kidnapping is just the latest example of how bad things have gotten. When Director Zoe Harlow (Lucy Liu) calls Jack O' Malley (Chris Evans) in to assist, Callum has no choice but to work with the black hat hacker to locate Santa and apprehend those who dared to infiltrate the North Pole.

Told you this movie's wacky! It's also over the top and silly, the kind of Christmas watch that's made for laughs with the family and shaking your head in amusement at the ridiculousness of it all. But though it's clearly geared toward kids, do note that Red One is PG-13.

Red One parent's guide

According to IMDb, the film has a PG-13 rating for action, some violence, and language. Due to mythical creatures being heavily present in the movie, the violence on display is primarily fantastical. However, beings like the Abominable Snowmen and the Krampus may be frightening to younger audiences.

The profanity in the movie is listed as moderate. The language isn't considered to be strong so there's no use of the f-word (though there is a cut-off mention of it) or slurs or gender specific pejoratives. Alcohol is present in the movie as one character is described as being an alcoholic on the parent's guide and the side effects of his substance abuse are shown.

If you're looking to watch a Christmas movie full of action that's irreverent and doesn't take itself too seriously, let Red One be your pick.
