Major spoilers ahead of Citadel: Diana episode 3

It's game on in Citadel: Diana come episode 3, "Together," which sees Edo and Diana paired on a Manticore sanctioned mission to track down Rainer Weber, the German spy who is suspected of having the French side of the weapon that Manticore France and Germany reversed engineered from Citadel technology without telling Italy.

Ettore saw the retrieval of the weapon as a bargaining chip. Cécile already reached out to Klein to give him an ultimatum. Admit guilt in trying to screw her over by taking the weapon for himself and then give her the coordinates to Weber's location or feel her wrath (we saw how ruthless she can be in episode 2). Klein cut off all communication, which presented the Zanis with an opportunity.

The plan was to get France's half of the "apple" and return it to soothe Cécile and get back in her good graces. They wouldn't kill Weber so as not to upset Klein and then Ettore would sit down at the table with both of them to get the whole picture of what happened in Lugano. Achieving this, however, did mean that Edo would be dealing with the crime family vying for a partnership with his.

The Zanis broke their agreement with the Trigalis and now the Magnanos, a rival mafia clan, are looking to take their place. Weber was hiding out in their territory and so Edo needed to go speak with the head of their organization to learn of his whereabouts. During the meeting with his parents, Edo slyly (or so he thought!) got his father to agree to him bringing a Manticore agent with him. When asked who he'd suggest, of course, he said Diana, so off to Sicily they went!

Does Rainer Weber die in Citadel: Diana episode 3?

What Edo thought his father didn't know was that he had no plans on letting Weber escape this mission with his life. He met with the head of the Magnanos family and learned that the Manticore Germany operative was hiding out in the Cretto di Gibellina, a land artwork that's abandoned. It was the perfect place for a showdown between Diana and the operative.

Between a shootout that's partly done on a zipline to a motorcycle chase followed by deadly hand-to-hand combat, this scene was action-packed and Weber's death was gruesome. He nearly pushed her off the ledge in the crumbling building they were fighting in, but she managed to hang on thanks to tubing and wiring that was hanging down from another part of the building.

Always quick on her feet, Diana used what saved her to kill him. She wrapped the tubing around Weber's neck and shoved him off the ledge. He fell to his death as the tubing hung him, ending his life immediately due to the force of it. Think of Clayton dying in Tarzan, it was that kind of moment.

Upon inspection, it was revealed that Weber no longer had France's piece of the weapon. But Diana scanning his body still proved fruitful as Edo used it as a means of creating a deep fake video. He had to give his father a compelling reason for the spy's death so he had Diana walk through the hotel they were staying in, making it appear as if she was off to kill someone.

Using the hotel camera footage, which Diana made a point of not obscuring, and the scan of Weber's body, Edo created a video that made it appear as if his life was in danger. He sent it off to Ettore who watched it with Matteo. It was pretty good and, as Edo told Diana, it was literal child's play for him as he'd been making deep fakes since he was 11 years old.

Ettore has Diana abducted

What Edo didn't anticipate, because of hubris, is that he is his father's son which means Ettore was very aware of his change in behavior. At their family home, he explained that the video Edo sent had been quite convincing, but he already knew that his son wasn't going to bring Weber in alive, so he knew not to trust it. And, displaying that he's playing chess and not checkers, Ettore pulled out the German half of the "apple" much to Edo's surprise.

As for Diana, she was stopped in front of her home by Giada. We'd met her fellow operative earlier in the episode when a team of Manticore agents were cleaning up Diana's apartment after the attack she'd sustained led by Manticore France spies . Giada prickled at Sara's presence despite the fact that Diana had knocked her out with some kind of sleep technology. Who would have known the same tech would be used on her? Certainly not I!

Diana's in a pickle though because she and Sara had a falling out since Sara knew something wasn't right with her being in the car one moment and then waking up in bed hours later. No amount of trying to play it like her sister was drunk worked in Diana's favor and Sara left scared, angry, and demanding Diana never contact her again. When our heroine tried to call her later in the episode, she got a standard message saying the caller she's trying to reach isn't available.

While it's certainly possible that Sara may cave to wanting to speak to her sister in the next episode or perhaps the penultimate, it does mean right now that there's no one to be concerned about Diana going missing. Edo is the sole person she has on her side.

They bonded when they were in Sicily. Edo seemed to want to make a point of it. They spoke of their respective siblings. He'd lost his brother Enrico eight years ago during the Piazza del Duomo attack that had devastated Diana and made her want to pull out of her Citadel mission due to Manticore's extreme and terrifying methods of taking power.

Their conversation, however, was about Diana having time to fix things with Sara, time Edo never got with his brother because they weren't speaking at the time. Edo also opened up about his belief that Manticore can make the world safer, he just disagrees with Citadel that there shouldn't be a leader. In his opinion, that's what people need whether they're willing to admit it or not, they want to be led.

It seems Edo was so free with his words because he feels like he isn't alone when he's with Diana. To him, she's the realest person he knows. We know that she's a mole so that reveal may just rock his world but their growing closeness was apparent as he asked Diana to dance. It was a lovely scene but it was interrupted by a Ménière's attack which resulted in her making a quick exit back to her room and a return to Milan without Edo so she could go to the doctor's.

The doctor asked Diana how she was feeling at the moment the attack came on, we didn't get to hear her answer but there was an implication that it was dancing with Edo that affected her. Has she caught feelings? Maybe! From what I know of Citadel, a slow build to romance isn't really on the menu. It tends to happen quick, there are only a handful of episodes after all.

Not to mention, there was something low key romantic about Edo rejecting Cécile's proposal of marriage but accepting Diana's alliance. Anyway, I'm digressing. The point is, whether feelings are involved or not, it's going to get messy as Edo works to help Diana. He made a deal with her and based on the preview for episode 4, he isn't going to break from it.
