Major spoilers ahead for Citadel: Diana episode 4

Citadel: Diana episode 4, "The Zanis," picks up right where "Together" left off but, as the title makes clear, the focus of this part of the story is the family that heads Manticore Italy. Ettore started his conversation with his son Edo under the impression that he had outmaneuvered him. He'd disclosed that he knew the video showing Weber attempting to assassinate him was a fake and that in actuality he had the Manticore Germany spy prior to his decision to send Edo off to fetch him.

Edo was suitably floored that his father had gotten one over on him and that's how he came to have the German half of the weapon in his possession. But Ettore didn't have all the pieces to the puzzle, as Edo made him aware of when he informed him that the French half was a dud. Cécile had never intended to swap halves of the "apple" in good faith, so Ettore didn't actually have the whole of the weapon that would allow them to control the world.

With that said, there wasn't anything more for Ettore to do but strip his son of his Manticore privileges, effectively booting him out of the organization. You would think though for as wily as Edo has proven to be, Ettore would have thought to change security protocols for the network since his son was the one who designed them eight years ago. But he didn't so Edo simply used his watch to override the system when he was in Manticore Italy HQ. That's how he was able to go see Diana and their plan to bring Manticore France down came into being.

How does Diana escape death in Citadel: Diana episode 4?

When Edo and Diana were talking she urged him to help her escape from her imprisonment but he wouldn't because the guards would be on them in moments. Instead, he wanted her to trust him. She, however, was so sure she'd be eliminated or worse because the prisoner in the cell beside hers is the Citadel agent who killed his brother Enrico eight years ago. Ettore has been holding him in the bowels of their HQ for that amount of time and torturing him. It's a fate worst than death in Diana's mind.

Understanding the stakes, Edo later presented his father with a plan based on an idea of Diana's. He wants to infiltrate Manticore France to take the real half of the weapon so that they can be in possession of this piece of technology. But the plan does mean that Edo will have to go with her when she's handed over to Cécile because his security system is apparently used by France's HQ as well.

Ettore was hesitant to get on board because he promised his wife Julia that he would not put their sole living child in harm's way like he'd done with Enrico the day that Manticore lodged their attack against Citadel. But he did decide to go against her wishes and grant Edo leave to conduct the mission. Ettore's part was to lull Cécile and Wolfgang, the head of Maticore Germany, into thinking he simply wanted to help.

When they met in the spy organization's secret villainy lair, he said that he'd return their halves of the weapon in exchange for Manticore Italy's sanctions to be lifted and for them to be enfolded back into the global strategy devised by the spy network's European council. He threw in handing over the spy that killed Cécile's agent as well. The two were skeptical at first but they agreed and filled Ettore in on what the weapon does when he asked.

After their meeting, Ettore sowed discord by letting Wolfgang know that Cécile had every intention on screwing him over as she'd sent her operative with a fake instead of the real thing. Wolfgang was taken aback but Ettore didn't elaborate, he simply walked away. In contrast, Ettore told Cécile that he'd bring her both halves of the weapon and the prisoner, making it seem as if he planned to cross only Wolfgang instead of them both.

"The Zanis" ended with Diana and Edo being reunited in the airplane hangar, her still in cuffs because she's a prisoner. There was also an implication that Diana may have been the person who killed Enrico and not the man being held in the cell. If that's the case, this mission at Manticore France could get really, really messy if Edo finds out.
