Minor spoilers ahead for Citadel: Diana

Citadel: Diana is off to a thrilling start on Prime Video. The latest entry in the Citadel franchise takes us to a near future Milan where Manticore has a stronghold led by the Zani family. The spy drama sprawls, giving us a look at the Italian countryside, the Italian-Switzerland border, Sicily, and both classic and modern architecture. But, in this day and age, stand-in locations are the norm and those who've never been to the area may be none the wiser.

Is that the case for this series? Thankfully, no. Filming actually did take place in Italy and in the locales featured throughout the show's run. Curious about the various locations production set up in. Here's what we know (per Italy for Movies)!

Where Citadel: Diana filmed in Italy and Switzerland

Lugano Arte e Cultura (Lugano, Switzerland)

The action sequence in the premiere, "Split in Two," was shot the Lugano Arte e Cultura in Switzerland. As you'll be able to note from the video, production primarily used the exterior for Luca and Diana's recon mission as they listened in on Alex Moreau, a French Manticore agent and Rainer Weber, a German Manticore operative meet about a weapon their agencies had been working on without Manticore Italy's knowledge.

Lake Como (Lombardy, Italy)

The Zani family home is located in Lombardy. We get our first look at the interior of the house after Edo and Ettore's meeting with Cécile Martin, the head of Manticore France and Wolfgang Klein, the leader of Manticore Germany. It's a stunning mansion with a large foyer that houses a large statue of Great Danes. The Zanis are a fans of the dog breed as they have several that run about the property.

In episode 2, "War," as the father-son duo discuss a dire situation involving the agency, we get a glimpse of the exterior of their home that overlooks Lake Como. Sure, they received terrible news but at least the view was breathtaking as they figured out next steps!

Milan, Italy

Principle photography for Citadel: Diana did take place in Milan. When we see the Citadel mole going about her daily life in 2030 and in the past, she is wandering the city's streets. There's even a scene in the spy thriller where she bids her trainer Gabriele goodbye as he gets on a trolley just like the one in the picture above. Milan's old world beauty combined with the modern edge of this series is a highlight of the viewing experience.

Duomo di Milano

This gorgeous, gothic cathedral is a prominent feature at the beginning of the show as the square before it is the place where Diana hears from Gabriele for the first time. We also see it in the opening minutes of the premiere as she drives in to Manticore Italy's headquarters and the news makes mention of the increasing military presence in the city.

Sicily, Italy

In episode 3, "Together," Edo and Diana take a trip to Trapani to get intel. The heir to Manticore Italy must meet with the head of a crime family in Sicily. Their inclusion did leave me wondering whether the Citadel franchise may one day include a series about the Mafia since Manticore does deal with the underbelly of society.

Cretto di Gibellina

While in Sicily, Diana also pops by the Cretto di Gibellina though she's not there to simply enjoy the abandoned land artwork by Alberto Burri. It's here that she confronts the Manticore Germany spy and goes head-to-head with him in a spectacular action sequence that you can watch part of in the clip.

Other film locations in Citadel: Diana include Lazio (Rome), the San Gottardo where the heads of the Manticore European families meet, and in the Mendrisio district of Ticino, Switzerland.
