If you love political thrillers, Netflix is the place to check out in January with the next seasons of two of its biggest hits!
We know the streamer is home to some great political thrillers, two of its hottest ones being The Night Agent and The Recruit. Now, Netflix is making things bigger, as not only are both those shows coming back in 2025 but in back-to-back weeks!
First, The Night Agent Season 2 will drop on Thursday, January 23. Then, just a week later, season 2 of The Recruit will also hit on Jan. 30.
This is a surprising move by Netflix as they generally space out one notable show premiere/return per month. Having two of their biggest shows premiering in consecutive weeks is an unusual decision with worries that this may hurt the audience potential. After all, both shows are in the same genre of spy thriller, so there's a worry that the audience may be divided. Some might argue that spreading one show out for another month would have been better.
Still, the streamer may want to get a jump on viewership in 2025 with network shows returning from the winter hiatus. It's also a good sign of Netflix's faith that both shows can be a great block of programming to kick off the year.
What's coming on The Night Agent season 2?
Season 2 picks up with Peter (Gabriel Basso) heading off on a new mission while Rose (Luciane Buchanan) went to restart her life in Silicon Valley. Peter will be joining the Night Action program, where he will soon be involved in a dangerous conspiracy that could use Rose's help.
The cast includes returning faces such as Hong Chau, and Kari Matchett as the president. New to this season are Brittany Snow, Teddy Sears, Amanda Warren, Arienne Mandi, Louis Herthum, Berto Colon, Michael Malarkey, and Keon Alexander.
Expect a lot more thrills as the surprise hit looks to build on its season 1 momentum for an even bigger year of action.
What's coming on The Recruit season 2?
The second season picks up with Owen (Noah Centineo) reeling from watching as Max (Laura Haddock), the asset he'd spent the season protecting, was shot by her own daughter Karolina, now working for Russia.
The good news is that Owen survives and makes his way to South Korea. However, creator Alexi Hawley shared with TVLine that it won't be easy for Owen and there's a lot of trouble ahead.
"Owen rolls into this season basically screwed. Owen knows that if he does not walk away with a win this season, his career is going to be over. He might go to prison. Depending on what people are into, they can show up this season for the big, flashy, splashy action stuff, but they can also be on a journey with this guy who's just trying to fix something that he broke."
There's no confirmation if Max is alive or dead or what new adventures Owen gets into, but it's good to see this sleeper hit returning for a second season. Combined with The Night Agent, the return of The Recruit means January is going to be a blast for spy thriller lovers on Netflix!
