It's been five years since Angel Has Fallen, the last entry in the Has Fallen film series, debuted in 2019 and the next film Night Has Fallen is still in development. So, of course, U.S. fans of the franchise are hopping on the opportunity to tune into Paris Has Fallen, the first television show in this shared universe.
The thriller hit Hulu on Dec. 6 with an action-packed eight episode run centered on a plot to assassinate France's Minister of Defense. Vincent, a protection officer assigned to the politician's detail, is partnered with Zara, an MI6 agent, in this twisting plot. The Big Bad that they're up against is Cpt. Jacob Pearce, a man who is out for blood due to the murder of his men. They'd been killed for political and financial gain, and now he's turning the tables on the people he deems responsible.
Pearce's web of influence is vast. He even has a mole in the protective service that's feeding him information. It's led the captain to be one step ahead and with the upper hand. As such, Vincent and Zara wind up closing ranks, leaning on each other when they're suspicious of those tasked with assisting them.
It's the kind of plot that fans of the Has Fallen films would hope Gerard Butler's Mike Banning might show up in for an episode or a scene. Banning is the lead of this universe after all so, even if a cameo might be a bit far-fetched in this French series, it wouldn't be unreasonable. Unfortunately, fans won't see him appear in Paris Has Fallen. Butler is only credited as an executive producer on the series and doesn't reprise the role of Banning for it.
If you love this universe, you'll have to hold tight for the next film to premiere. In the meantime, spin-offs TV series could be the next phase of this franchise. When speaking to Deadline, Anne Chérel, StudioCanal’s chief commercial officer, had the following to say about a possible season 2 of the Paris set show:
“It will obviously depend on how successful the series is in France, but also in other geographies. The plan would be to go to another city. There are so many opportunities in terms of fascinating cities.”
The franchise entering the TV space will allow viewers to spend more time in this universe, see new locales, and get to know new characters that can drive it into interesting directions. We'll keep you posted as more news comes in about the Has Fallen franchise.
