The best boy, Special Agent Gary Callahan, makes his NCIS: Origins debut!

NCIS: ORIGINS follows a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) in 1991, years prior to the events of NCIS, and is narrated by Mark Harmon. Good news, CBS procedural lovers! The network is welcoming another lovable pup into the fold. Last week Tank returned for FBI: International season 4, and now this week we'll be introduced to NCIS: Origins' dog--Special Agent Gary Callahan. Yes, that's right. This good boy has a first and a last name. Don't let Mike Franks catch you raising an eyebrow at that fact because the grizzled NIS agent doesn't see a problem with it.

Gary makes his debut in episode 4, "All's Not Lost," which airs Monday, Oct. 28 at 10 p.m. ET. He's taking part in an investigation involving a missing girl. It's a case that'll bring up some of Gibbs' past as he can't help but think about his daughter, Kelly. Prepare for the episode to be an emotional one as it will feature the moment Gibbs learned he lost his wife Shannon and their child.

Get a look at Gary rolling up in style to the tune of "Boys in the Hood" by N.W.A. in the clip below!

Gary's partner in the field is Special Agent Granville "Granny" Dawson (Daniel Bellomy), who we typically see working alongside Artie in records. But the pup has a special place in Mike's heart as well. Expect more than one comment from him about Gary and his well being.

What breed of dog is Gary Callahan on NCIS: Origins?

If you clocked that Gary is a long coat German Shepherd, you're right on the money! This breed of dog is highly intelligent which is why they're often used as working animals whether that's in K-9 units like Gary's with the NIS, service dogs, search and rescue, or drug and bomb sniffers. They're also very energetic and protective. You can count on German Shepherds to be loyal and affectionate. They're easy to train, socialize well, will come to your defense, and are quite brave. You can learn more about dogs like Gary on Dog Academy.

Considering Gary's warm welcome back to the field, we're sure to see him again on the procedural whenever the team needs something sniffed out. Perhaps it'll be sooner rather than later but one thing is for certain, if Gary's on the trail then you know they have the right canine on the hunt!

NCIS: Origins airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS. Next day streaming is available on Paramount+. Stay tuned to Americans Undercover for coverage of the procedural including episodic features. Follow us on X for livetweet threads and more content!
