Where to stream The Day of the Jackal (1973) online - Is it on Peacock?
By Sabrina Reed
The latest adaptation of Frederick Forsyth's 1971 novel The Day of the Jackal has made its debut on Peacock. The series, starring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch, tells an updated version of the story of the Jackal being pursued by an intelligence officer trying to stop the assassin from taking out their target and fulfilling their contract. The streaming adaptation, however, follows an MI6 agent who has been investigating the gun for hire.
If you're looking for a more faithful retelling of Forsyth's thrilling classic, you'll want to turn to the 1973 film starring Edward Fox in the titular role. The movie maintains the integrity of the overarching story laid out in the book. The Jackal is contracted by the far-right paramilitary and terrorist group, Organisation armée secrète (OAS) to assassinate French President Charles de Gaulle. It's their escalated response to the French government granting Algeria independence.
Tasked with keeping the president safe, and stopping the Jackal, is Claude Lebel, the deputy to Police Commissioner Berthier. De Gaulle, who is a World War II hero, doesn't make Lebel's job easy as he refuses to cancel his public appearances, choosing instead to keep his schedule. Over the course of 142 minutes, the Jackal works to get his target while Lebel attempts to thwart him.
While we won't give away whether the assassin is successful in his mission, we can share where you can stream The Day of the Jackal movie online. Here's what we know!
